WHAT IS A MUN (model united nations)?

Overview:
What is a MUN?
A MUN or Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate student participants on current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which is usually organized by a school or a college or club.

What do students do in a MUN?
The students play the role of diplomats representing a nation or NGO in a simulated session of a committee of the United Nations, such as the Security Council or the General Assembly. Students research a country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to world problems. At the end of most conferences, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognized and awarded.

What is the MUN Café Club?
In order to be effective, impressive and successful at a MUN conference, students must employ a variety of communication and critical thinking skills in order to represent the policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, group communication, research, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, reaching consensus, conflict resolution, note taking, and technical writing.
The MUN Café club would typically have:
 - Public Speaking and Debate
 - Focused Research Exercises
 - Group Discussions
 - Teamwork and Leadership vis-à-vis MUN
 - Negotiations and Deliberation
 - Mock MUN sessions

From the students’ perspective, the MUN Café Club can be seen as a foundation course to grow and evolve gradually into confident delegates who can represent the school at MUN conferences across the world.

What is expected from MUN Café Club members?
Regular reading of the newspaper, taking initiative in sessions, following global issues online or offline and of course, attending sessions regularly!
