- THE SILICON VALEY OF INDIA: Bangalore

BANGALORE

Bangalore is the capital city of the Southern state of Karnataka and lies on the Deccan plateau. The city has an overall population over ten million, this makes it the third most populous city and the fifth most populous urban city in India.

Since the city lies on the Deccan plateau, it is also referred to as the Mysore plateau or the Silicon Plateau. The name suggests that Bangalore is a hub for information and communication technology. The transformation of Bangalore into an IT city began in the year 1970, this is also referred to as the Electronic City Project. In 1991, the software technology park of India was set up in Bangalore.

There are a lot of reasons for Bangalore to be chosen as the hub for Information technology, this includes geographic and other various facilities this city offers. Bangalore has a very pleasant and moderate climate because of its elevation. Due to this the city enjoys an equable climate throughout the year. The winters are not too cold nor the summers are too hot. The winters rarely drop below 14 degrees Celsius and the summers seldom exceed 36 degrees Celsius. Bangalore experiences rainfall but it mostly occurs only in the nighttime.
Bangalore also has more than 20 railway stations inside the city; there is an international airport, and well developed roadways; this makes transportation easy for the IT workers. There is a lot of infrastructure provided by the IT firms. Apart from all this the Government offers many progressive policies and there are also a lot of places, which the city of Bangalore offers which are used for international conferences, workshops, tradeshows, etc. Large multifunctional companies such as Infosys, Wipro, Tata Consultancy and Tech Mahindra, Siemens, Motorola, Citicorp and Vodafone have setup their headquarters in Bangalore this makes the scope of development faster.

IT workers from various other places like Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai get transferred to Bangalore, this makes the IT field grow rapidly. There are highly trained and talented professionals, which make Bangalore the silicon valley of India.

Currently IT firms such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, Infosys, HCL, Cognizant, as well as the services arms of companies, such as International Business Machines (IBM), Hewlett-Packard (HP) have opened up their IT firm in Bangalore. Bangalore gets to partnership with many foreign companies because of its well developed IT field. As the IT field in Bangalore develops factors such as population, demand for educated and graduated workers, infrastructure, science and space would develop and there would also be an economic growth.

Factors such as altitude, climate, government, people, companies, IT field, transportation, etc. make Bangalore the Silicon valley of India.
